The passing of a loved one can be an especially difficult and chaotic time. Death is often unexpected and comes with the sometimes demanding nuts and bolts of planning the funeral and/or sending the proper flower arrangements.
When it comes to sending flowers to a funeral, so many get stuck on what to send, when to send it and where? Here are a few things you need to consider when sending flowers to the funeral of a loved one:

1. Find out if the deceased is male, female, adult or a child. You want to make sure your flower arrangements are gender and age appropriate. For example, it may be a serious faux pas to send a spray of pink flowers to the funeral of a man.
2. Find out of if the funeral will be open or closed casket. If there is an open casket you may want to send a casket blanket that covers only half or the casket. But if it is a closed casket funeral, you'll be better off sending a full casket blanket.
3. One of the biggest dilemmas for people looking for flowers after the death of a loved one is the question of which arrangements are appropriate. Most people haven't attended "lots" of funerals so they may not know what to send. Below are some traditional arrangements:
o Standing sprays; flowers arranged on an easel and placed in front of the deceased's casket.
o Live plants; traditionally peace lilies.
o Fireside baskets of fresh cut flowers.
o A vase of cut flowers.
Discuss with your florist what type of flowers (seasonal, variety etc.) is appropriate for your loved one. The florist is usually very helpful and has delivered flowers to many funerals.
4. Call the funeral home and confirm their address, visitation hours and their delivery guidelines. Have your flowers delivered on the day of visitation and before viewing hours begin.
5. When sending your flowers be sure to include a card and if you're at a loss for words, here are a few phrases that are completely acceptable and commonly used:
o "With Deepest Sympathy"
o "Our Deepest Condolences"
o "Our Thoughts And Prayers Are With You"
o "In Loving Memory"
And don't forget your signature and address on the card, which will make it easier for those in mourning to acknowledge your gift with a thank you note or card.
