Flower Tattoos

For some strange reasons, I like designing flower tattoos more than others. Flower tattoos are mostly favored by women, they are like clothes accessories except that you can wear your tattoo to bed. It's like having a piece of art with you all the time. I find women with tattoos more appealing, sexier, more feminine and more powerful.

The image of a tattoo can be so captivating that it stirs up all our senses. You can have a Rose tattoo with a barbed wire around it and still look very good. It's Ying and Yang, loving and sweet but authoritative and intimidating. But if you are intending to ink a flower tattoo on your body, it's best to find out the meaning of the flower and what you want it to represent. You can then combine different images to give contrasting impressions of your tattoos.

Flower

I have compiled a list of meaning of flowers as a guide before you tattoo them on your body. I cannot vouch how official these meanings are, but my research has shown them to be fairly consistent. flower tattoos are permanent, so look around before deciding on one.

Why Women Like Flowers

One of the best, and easiest, ways to bring a smile to a woman's face is to give her flowers. But to a lot of guys these things may be pretty and frilly, but they have absolutely zero practical use, unlike a television or a car for example. "What's the deal?" you may be thinking. "I just don't get it". Well my friend, we're here to help you decipher yet another feminine mystery; today we'll answer that puzzling question, "Why do women like flowers?"

They Are Traditional

Flowers

The giving of flowers as a gift stretches back into the far reaches of history. The Greeks and Egyptians gave symbolic meanings to the flowers long ago, some of which we still use today. In the Victorian era these meanings were used as a complex message system, signaling everything from romantic love to forlorn rejection. In fact, when a man in this time wanted to start officially courting a woman, he would present her with a bouquet of flowers to begin the ritual. Flowers are a timeless symbol of love and affection, and every woman loves to be adored

Why Women Like Flowers

They Play to Our Senses

The wonderful thing about a bouquet of flowers is that they are a multi-sensory experience. The myriad colors are a feast for our eyes, and the smells that come from the open blooms are simply divine. Also, a flower's petals are soft and smooth to the touch. Flowers provide stimulation for the senses, and give a woman a moment to stop her busy day to immerse herself in the smell, sight, and feeling of her precious bouquet.

Flowers Are Often Outside a Man's Comfort Zone

For men, buying flowers is not a natural instinct. While he may feel comfortable in the local auto store, a florist can seem like an alien planet full of feminine sights and sounds. When a man buys flowers for a woman he is often venturing out of his comfort zone. While he may not know much about flowers, a man who buys his woman a bouquet feels deeply enough for her to endure some discomfort in order to make her happy. Just the thought of a man going out on a limb for her will make most women insanely happy.

You may feel like you are clueless when you go out to buy flowers, and that's alright, not everyone is an expert. Before you bag the whole idea though, remember the above tips about why women love flowers, and think of how much she will love the bouquet you bring her.

Unique Cake Decorating With Flowers

Flowers as a Cake Decoration, unique and easy to place on every one of your cake creations.

Flowers

Section 1: Artificial Flowers

Unique Cake Decorating With Flowers

Section 2: Real Flowers

Section 3: Sugar Glazing Flowers

1. Artificial Flowers

Step 1: Cut the stems from the flowers, approximately 1 ½ inches from the base of the flowers and leaves.

Step 2: Cut a piece of floral wire at least 4 inch. (If you buy the pre-cut ones, typically they are 6 inches which is fine.)

Step 3: Use floral tape to secure the flower to the new stem.

Step 4: After you have done this to all of the flowers and leaves, place them all together and use floral tape to secure them in any order you would like. (Tip: Do not place floral tape all the way down the stems. Only place enough to secure the flowers, making sure that the individual wires do not come out of the tape.

Step 5: Bend the stems carefully using the flower head between your thumb and index finger. Once you have each flower where you want it, cut the excess stems off of the flowers holding onto the floral tape and not the flowers.

2. Real Flowers

Real flowers can be place directly on the cake you have prepared or you can follow the instructions above to add movable stems to them.

Tips for purchasing real flowers:

Tip 1: Make sure you are using an edible flower unless your cake is for show.

Here is a website that has a complete list of edible flowers:
http://homecooking.about.com/library/weekly/blflowers.htm.

Tip 2: Make sure that the flowers do not have pesticides on them. You can do this by picking them out of your own yard or just ask the florist that you are purchasing them from. Typically florists have sets of flowers that have never been treated for pesticides.

Tip 3: Make sure you freeze your flowers and apply them to the cake directly before serving or showing it. If you are adding stems, add them as soon as you get the flowers, place them in baggies or an airtight container and freeze them until you are ready to put them on the cake.

3. Sugar Glazing Flowers

Step 1: Fill one bowl with a gently beaten egg white and put some regular sugar in a second bowl.

Step 2: Cut the stems on the flowers or fruits leaving only enough to hold onto with your thumb and forefinger. (Tip: Make sure you are using an edible flower for this.)

Step 3: Coat the fruits or flowers you are sugaring using a pastry brush lightly with the egg white. Make sure you get all parts of the flower or fruit.

Step 4: Using a spoon, sprinkle sugar all over the flowers or fruits. Make sure you cover all parts of the flowers or fruits.

Step 5: Place on a paper towel to dry. This typically, takes a few hours. After they are dry add them to your cake.

You can be as creative as you like with flowers on cakes, they make for a beautiful and unique decoration!

What Kind of Flowers Grow in the Spring?

Now is the time to determine what kind of flowers grow in the spring and to prepare your soil for them. Most spring bloomers are bulbs that need to be planted now in order to grow and by the time the snow melts we are more than ready to see their bright blossoms.

Most early spring bloomers are bulb type plants. The larger bulbs like Daffodils and Lilies are fairly well known and are often given as gifts for Valentines Day or Easter. The Amaryllis, a common Easter gift is one example. But they are not the only example of what kinds of flowers grow in the spring.

Flowers

The Crocus for example is a delicate little bloom that is first seen in late February or early March. Her tiny little flower peeks out of the snow in shades of purple and white to remind us that warm weather is on the way. She is the first recognized kind of flower that grows in the spring. She isn't the first bloomer though, that would be the Snow Drop with her white bloom as she bids farewell to winter. Neither of these flowers is large but planted in large groups will make a fine display as you pace to your window and back again waiting for springtime.

What Kind of Flowers Grow in the Spring?

There are some perennials which will return year after year. The Peony and Rose for example are standards of many landscaping schemes, both for their cool weather blooms and brilliant shades of colors and the Cherry Blossom is a standard symbol of spring.

The tiny Anemone is another fine flower to consider when asking, What kind of flowers grow in the spring? Birds of Paradise are often thought to be spring bloomers but really, in colder climates they wont do well until the temperature is consistently over fifty degrees Fahrenheit. This is also true of most Orchids, so be careful of when you plant as well as what you plant.

Sweet Pea blooms with a lovely fragrance in late March to early April with Freesia and Dahlia keeping it company. Zinnia loves cool weather but has trouble with temperatures under fifty degrees.

There really aren't many early spring bloomers. The Crocus family and Snow Drop family are really about all there are. For post melt blooms, smaller bulbs tend to bloom earlier than large blooms, but don't last as long.

This list should help you determine what kind of flowers grow in spring and in what order to expect to see them.

o Crocus and Snow Drop (Late February to early March)

o Lilies, Daffodils, and Tulips (Early March to mid April)

o Cherry Blossom, Roses, Peonies, and Zinnias (Grow mid April to late May, may bloom later)

o Heather, Sweet Pea, and Anemone (Late April to Late May)

o Agapanthus, Birds of Paradise, Dahlia, Freesia, Hyacinth, and Orchid (Late May to early June)

Keep in mind the best guide for growing spring flowers in your area is your local garden supply center as they know the hardiness zones and blooming times better than anyone and will be able to answer best, What kind of flowers grow in the spring? for your lawn.

Graduation Flowers

Graduation Day is an important day of a student's life, whether it's Kindergarten, High school or College. This is why the student's loved ones should make this day perfect, starting with choosing the best graduation flowers.

Graduation celebrations are usually limited to family members, so you may not attend the actual ceremony and offer graduation flowers. So think of sending a fresh graduation bouquet or graduation arrangement via your local florist, early in the morning. The graduate will surely be impressed and his/her day will be even more cheerful. Alternatively, you can have the flowers sent directly at the ceremony. You'll definitely make an impression, especially if you're sending out a huge graduation arrangement or bouquet.

Flowers

If you do attend the ceremony, remember that a lot of pictures will be taken, so don't just pick any graduation flower that comes in handy. Make sure the flowers contrast the gown, so that they surely stand out. If you're not that good with matching colors, Online Flowers Guide has some great tips for matching flower colors.

Graduation Flowers

Choose rich, bright graduation bouquets, not single flower stems, unless you offer tropical flowers such as anthurium, strelitzia or Cymbidium Orchids or Stargazer Lilies. These go very well single, but they still should be nicely wrapped, tied with silk bows and enhanced with greenery, for an amazing graduation bouquet. Generally, almost any flowers are suitable, but you might want some expert advice when choosing graduation flowers.

Are you in the graduation party committee? Then you're probably in charge of the flowers for the party. This means everything from graduation arrangements, centerpieces, buttoniers and corsages, so you might want to do a little research to see which flowers and colors fit best this occasion. Some tips on graduation flower meaning and color matching will give you enough to plan an unforgettable graduation party.

Remember that there isn't one person in this love who doesn't appreciate flowers. So don't hesitate to offer graduation flowers to any dear one who crosses this milestone.

Funeral Flowers-A Guide to Sending Sympathy Floral Arrangements

The death of my father was probably the most painful experiences I ever had. Despite death being a natural part of life, most people, like me, still have difficulties getting through this experience.

So how exactly do we alleviate the sorrow that the bereaved is experiencing?

Flowers

It is traditional to have flowers sent to the church or funeral parlor by relatives and friends. But giving the florist a call, ordering some flowers, and getting them delivered is not quite enough. Some decorum needs to be followed regarding this tradition.

Funeral Flowers-A Guide to Sending Sympathy Floral Arrangements

Sending the Flowers to the Proper Places

The recovery process of the mourning family is made faster because of the different ceremonies organized during the grieving process. Visitations and viewings are held to welcome everyone who wants to pay their respects to the family. Funeral flowers may be delivered to the home, parlor, or place of worship where such ceremonies are held. If no such services are held, flowers may be delivered directly to the residence of the deceased.

Prior to the initial visit to the parlor or church, funeral flower planning should be organized by a close family member. Funeral directors often allow flowers to be delivered a day before the wake. But most people choose to send them on the morning of the ceremony. However, if the delivery can not be made in time, the florals can be sent to the home of the deceased.

What Kind of Sympathy Flower Arrangement to Send

The spouse of the departed usually chooses a Bleeding Heart, while other types of floral sympathy sprays may be delivered by relatives and associates.

The immediate family of the deceased can order the sympathy casket wreaths or casket covers.

But different floral arrangements like crosses, wreaths, and sprays may be requested by anybody who would like to extend their condolences to the family of the deceased.

Numerous arrangements of funeral flowers that are even more personalized are now offered for these occasions.

  • Normally comprised of roses or sometimes calla lilies, casket arrangements are top choices of friends and relatives.
  • For a beautiful display at the wake, funeral flower baskets are the ones usually ordered.
  • Sympathy sprays are popular with groups where the deceased is a member of.
  • An organization of the family of the deceased can send floral wreaths.
  • One may also choose to send vase arrangements to the family or close friends of the deceased.

Note, however, that often after the funeral service the grieving family needs the most comforting. Sending flowers, a gift basket, or a simple note of "Know that I will be here if you need me" even weeks after the death is a beautiful act of compassion.

Sending flowers for the loss of a friend or relative's loved one is never easy. Often times, people are confused by which funeral flowers would be appropriate to send. In order to alleviate some of the stress of this decision for you, here are some traditional sympathy flowers, plants, and messages for sympathy cards to help you out.

Creative Ideas for Church Wedding Flowers Using Decorative Pew End Markers

As the bridal party makes their way down the aisle the sweet fragrance of the wedding flowers fills the air and sets the stage for what is to come. Flowers on the pew ends, with church wedding flowers, or attached to a chair, for an outdoor wedding, not only add beauty and function to designated seating they can also evoke favorite memories from the family members and offer calming thoughts as they anxiously await the ceremony.

Such precious memories may be something as simple as a mother remembering the first flower her daughter gave her as a child or memories of the two of them sharing the same favorite flower. It may be the familiar fragrance that acts as aromatherapy and soothes the soul or just being surrounded by beautiful flowers marking the special occasion.

Flowers

Pew ends provide a wonderful space to add drama and excitement. There are so many choices and styles and they are surprisingly easy to make. I'd like to share some ideas on my favorite designs to add a special touch to pew ends. I'll include church wedding ideas as well as some outdoor ideas.

Creative Ideas for Church Wedding Flowers Using Decorative Pew End Markers

One of my favorite applications is to place a small arrangement on each pew and connect them with a floral garland between the pews. They don't have to be very big arrangements to make a statement, but you can of course make them as big as you like.

The garlands can be removed on one side for seating and allowed to hang down from the center arrangement. They look especially good when matched with a halo for the flower girl. This type of pew marker also works well for outdoor seating. In a less formal setting, the bridal family could be seated from the outside row so the garland would not have to be removed.

Floral garlands can be made from any type of greenery. Boxwood, ming fern, ivy, and rosemary are good choices. Small flowers can be wired into the greenery or it can be left as it is. The pew markers can be arranged in a style that compliments the bridal bouquet.

Winter weddings offer an opportunity to transform the venue into a winter wonderland. Curly willow or any other type of twig can be grouped together and used as pew ends, centerpieces, wreaths, door arrangements, etc.

The twigs can be spray painted white or flocked. Glitter or tiny battery operated rice lights can be woven through the branches. Trees can be cut and potted in plaster of paris to match the pew ends. Tiny "trees" can be made from the twigs and used as table top decorations.

Fall pew ends look good with maple leaves and any type of autumn flower. Maple leaves can be scattered on table tops for the reception with candles to continue the theme. Acorns are great additions as they have long been used as a symbol of strength and fertility.

Pew ends for a beach or tropical wedding could include sea shells with orchids, anthurium, bird of paradise or ginger flowers. A garland of tropical flowers made from a Hawaiian lei would make a beautiful pew marker.

If you prefer a very tall pew marker, candle holders or topiaries can be used. Keep in mind, though, that a large pew end can make it difficult to seat the guests and may obstruct the view of the front of the church. They do work well for outdoor events especially if the area is an open space.

My preferred method is to use a small satin ribbon to attach the pew arrangements. Not only do they look better than a plastic one, but they prevent scratching the expensive church furniture. If that is not an option such as in using a bundle of twigs, a strip of soft cloth can be wrapped around the pew with a piece of tape over the cloth to hold the twigs. Ribbon can then be used to cover the cloth and tape.

Turn your church wedding flowers into something elegant and spectacular by making good use of church pew ends.

How To Make Paper Flowers

Are you wondering how to make paper flowers for a special event in your life?  Maybe you want flowers that won't wilt before the party, some that you can have ready ahead of time where you don't have to wait till the last minute to go out and buy them put them in some water and arrange them before your guests arrive, or maybe you want something you have made yourself to show off, or something that you can use over again and again, and where you can save a lot of money by making them yourself.

It isn't hard to make paper flowers you will need a few materials and tools, which you probably already have a lot of these things in your home if you do crafting. Such as scissors, craft glue, floral wire, floral tape, wire cutter, either quilters plastic or thin cardboard for making your templates or patterns, knitting needle, and a ruler this is a lot of what you might need.

Flowers

Next you will need to cut out all the parts for your flowers, then you will start making the flower itself by putting the petals in the order that they need to be, the instructions for your paper flower will tell you how and where they are to be arranged and if they need any type of shaping.

How To Make Paper Flowers

If your flower has a stamen then you can use an artificial one or you can make your own, usually if the flower instructions calls for a stamen then there should also be a pattern for making the stamen for the flower. When making your flower then add the stamen to the stem with glue and sometimes you will need to wire it to the stem to hold it in place on the stem before you add the petals of your flower.

When you make the leaves you may want to add a small wire down the center of the leaf for more support, either on the underside of your leaf or it can be sandwiched between two leaf shapes, I prefer this method all you need to do is place the wire between two leaf shapes, glue the wire down the center of one of the leaves then glue the two leaf shapes together, then using a knitting needle draw a few lines in the leaf (do not press to hard or you may tear your leaf) so it looks like the veins of a leaf for a more realistic look.

The next step is to wrap the flower stem with floral tape, then re-wrap the stem this time adding your leaves as you wrap the stem here and there down the stem to make it look like a real flower stem.

You may want to add a little color to the flower, if so you will need to do this before you put the flower petals together so you can get the color where you want it to go. There are several different ways to add color to your flowers you can use craft paints, colored markers (they may bleed into the paper), crayons, and chalk are some.

To make your paper flowers shine and make them hold their shape better you may want to get a spray gloss that is for paper projects and spray your paper flowers. This will bring out the colors more and give your flowers a nice shine.

For some of your paper flower projects you may want to add a little glitter or beads to add a little dazzle to them. All you need is glitter that you can find in craft stores spray the flower with a little spray glue sprinkle on some glitter let dry and spray with spray gloss, this helps keep the glitter from shedding. If you like beads then get glue that dries clear and add the glue to the flower and stick on the bead, do not use a heavy bead or it will weigh down your flower petals, you can use beads for the flower center or just put them here and there on the petals to make your flower fancy.
